In the US, the revamped Honda CR-V is already on sale. During the refresh, every CR-V, including the base LX and EX, got a new 9-inch screen of the information and vitality system with drone-free connectivity required by the majority of the drivers CarPlay and Android Auto.
Updates and equipment
The wireless phone charger is also available in all CR-V models, and EX-L, TrailSport, Sport-L and Sport touring trims now have a larger 10.2-inch digital charger. The information and communication system is also upscale with the Sport Touring trim with increased Google functionalities built into the top-end trim of every model of the brand.
Moreover, other items that have been listed in the list of equipment are the new 18 inch wheels that come with unique design to Trailsport and 19 inch wheels to Sport Touring. In fact, all-terrain tires and distinctive design features are also present in the Trailsport version.
The sling however does not involve special modification of the chassis and many dry plates in the body unlike in the other Honda TrailSport models. Another aspect that engineers modified was the all-wheel drive system to enhance performance features thus, simulating the locking of the differentials.
First signs of problems
According to the prior company, CarComplaints, the most amount of issues are recorded on the 2017 CR-V. The defects involving the engines were the primary cause of dissatisfaction, as they led to the unpleasant smell of gasoline in the cabin. The issue was created due to the spillage of the fire to the olive tree that eventually led to the destruction of internal parts of the unit.
Vlasniks complained about the malfunctions of the firing nozzles, whose vibrations were accelerated and quickly losed tension. In emergency cases the crossovers would go into the emergency state which would be costly in terms of repair and replacement of the parts. The dissatisfied trust of the node was lost to some of the koristuvachs during the conduct of the campaigns.
The 2024 model registered the highest number of complaints in the remaining five years. Key complaints are being about the electrical system awaiting the emergence of mercy notices of the safety systems. According to experts of CarComplaints, official service centers in most instances were not able to identify the precise cause of the software failures.
TrailSport hybrid concept
Another interesting move Honda has made towards the compact crossover category is that it has borrowed the efficient hybrid powertrain of the CR-V and merged it with some aspects that are most often associated with off-roading. TrailSport model is an offroad tire, has varied chassis settings and exterior variations. This concept appears paradoxical, as it is the tires that have a stronger tread that will make more noise and become economically less viable that makes many people decide to adopt a hybrid. This review gathers essential driving impressions, actual fuel consumption measurements and normal theses that are made by the owners.
The working principle of a hybrid drive
CR-V hybrid is powered by the 2.0-liter gasoline engine with two electric motors. On lower speeds the wheels are more frequently propelled by electric drive, and on high-way operation the direct drive clutch is closed, where the gasoline engine is in a position to work without the normal losses of the classic automatics with a torque converter. Consequently, the driver receives rapid reaction of the gas throttle in the start-up as well as the smoother acceleration in the urban stream. Another point highlighted in the review is the electric torque: 247 lb-ft are stated which can be obtained at virtually zero revolutions, therefore, subjectively the car feels more energetic than it would be in case of non-sports power tellers.
Dynamics and constraints no records but enough to live
As it is stated by the emotions of the test author, the TrailSport is not aimed to reach the highest speed or to make a sharp start at the cost of the acceleration that is at least satisfactory to do daily business. The 0 to 60 mph acceleration of less than the seven seconds in the upper range and the electronic top speed limit of about 111 mph are listed. Specific attention is paid to smoothness: the changes between gasoline and electric are said to be almost invisible unless one pays special attention to the indication of the flow of energy.
North American CR-V context
This is not the same situation with the North American Honda CR-V. This is one of the most popular SUVs in the United States where bigger cars prevail and driving on all-wheel drive is practically a sacred ritual. It is a market where it has always been sold and which, coupled with the Japanese one, is why it has been in the lead of the manufacturer sales some time ago. Along with the hybrid version, the CR-V goes to the factory with some sort of powertrain which, at least temporarily, is unavailable on this side of the Atlantic.
However, not that long as it is only in its second year in that market. The Honda CR-V e:FCEV was presented with the 2025 model year, includes a different look, particularly in the front, as neither the silhouette nor the rear area alters the equation, with an exterior design that avoids drawing any association with the original, which is no better than what we can find in the streets of Spain. As the name suggests, what is most important in it is the powertrain type.
Is this hydrogen Honda CR-V coming to Europe?
Is this hydrogen Honda CR-V coming to Europe? And if, will it in the short term do so? It is a situation where there is a question mark on the future. Diesels are fading away, yet combustion engines are not going away so fast, hybrids are taking over, and 100 percent electric cars are not establishment. What will it take to create trust among the users to launch an SUV of this nature? Impossible case today, impossible case tomorrow…
Background
In 1984, Honda launched the Civic Shuttle 4WD, which was a Civic that had higher driving position, all-wheel drive and was perceived as outdoorsy with large fender flares. This is the prototype of the hero of my test, the new CR-V PHEV, which is what people would desire in a D-segment SUV.
And that does not imply that it is a new model. The CR-V, which was created in 1995, was not the first to so name the SUV (the first-generation Jeep Cherokee in a 1974 sales brochure), but it was the first to do so in the market, at least in the non-American one.
