CR-V is the largest vehicle of Honda with a length of 4.70 meters. The model is now the sixth generation with this one. The new 2026 CR-V is still characterized by many of the characteristics of its predecessors in terms of high quality of the build, a very snacious cabin, good standard equipment, and a general practicality that makes its utilization as a family car a more favorable idea. Now it has only five seats, although it could have 7 earlier on.

Powertrains

It has a non-plug-in hybrid (ECO badge by the DGT) and, in the first instance, has a plug-in hybrid (0 Emissions badge); we provide more information about the latter in the Honda CR-V PHEV article. The propulsion system has a maximum output of 184 horsepower in either of the two cases. It is set-up with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine that has 148 horsepower, two electric motors, and a battery. In the engine section later, we elaborate on the working of the powertrain of the CR-V, which is rather interesting.

Trims and equipment

The trims are Elegance and Advance and come with two choices in ZR-V. The former is linked to a front-wheel-driving mechanism and the later has more equipment and an all-wheel-drive. The gearbox is automatic in any case.

Based on the Elegance trim is much standard equipment, including a multimedia system with navigation and a 9-inch screen, sunroof, leather seats with power adjustment and heating, a rear parking assist camera, keyless entry and start, power tailgate, and virtually every conceivable driving aid.

The Advance trim also includes heated rear seats, a vent driver seat, 12-speaker sound system, adaptive light headlights, a surround-view camera system and a head-up display.

Competitors

The market competitors of Honda CR-V e:HEV are the Renault Espace E-Tech full hybrid, Hyundai Santa Fe HEV, and Nissan X-Trail e-Power among others. The Honda is the most weakest yet it performs like most and Renault is the least consuming. The only one of them which also offers an all-wheel drive is the Nissan. Honda is also one of the least expensive, but its standard features are very rich.

CR-V e:FCEV future

Honda, the Japanese automaker, has already confirmed that it will stop the production of its CR-V e:FCEV hydrogen crossover in the future. This move was a result of the shutdown of the fuel cell manufacturing in a joint venture with the General Motors. At the moment, the vehicle is leased in California.

Some of the recent developments occurred earlier this week because Honda declared it would stop producing the current generation of fuel cells at the end of this year. Fuel cell system Manufacturing joint venture with General Motors produced these systems and they were specifically applied to the CR-V e:FCEV model.

The company said in its statement:

The CR-V e:FCEV production will be done at the Performance Manufacturing Center plant in Ohio until all the fuel cells manufactured at the FSCM are depleted or are used elsewhere.

The crossover will then be added to the Clarity Fuel Cell model in the history automobile history.

Although the full production is yet to have an ending date, Honda still has CR-V e:FCEV on lease in California. Although the firm does not usually release specific sales statistics, an official of the carmaker indicated that approximately 200 units of the vehicles have been leased in the Gold State.

That might not be much, yet hydrogen powered cars are extremely uncommon and can only be found in a few dealerships. By contrast, Toyota only sold 210 Mirai sedans in the previous year.

Design

The new SR-V has increased in size over a span of a generation. The wheelbase is 69 mm longer and the increase in the wheelbase is 40 mm. The designers have made it more visual – they flattened the hood and made it long, and even pushed the front pillars to the back of the car a little, as well.

As a successor of the eleventh-generation Civic, Honda made a visual decision to have a larger hood, shifting the A-pillars back by 119 mm. The front pillar support was also displaced 71 mm up-wards and was lowered 35.6 mm below front CR-V.

I appreciated the fact that the model transformed her style and she stopped having rounded shapes and lines and adopted straight and clear ones. The also plus is that the head optics are heavy, the radiator grille is black and with a large design and all of it looks great on a car coupled with a light color scheme. It is classy and also somewhat violent. The food is conceptually a repetition of the style of the earlier generation. Also, the company DNA is saved. And it is good that in its bigger size the model could still have a toned and sporty appearance.

Salon and practicality

The interior style of the previous generation, the manner in which everything was assembled, was to my liking, and these days, things have totally changed. But when I sit in the salon I feel literally immediately of the deja vu, and I have already learned all the details here… Well, it is of course the Honda ZR-V which we had just tested! In principle, the key elements of the bathroom are arranged in a similar manner, though in this case, the style is different – there are no rounded shapes. Horizontal lines are also put on designer accents to make the interior wider and minimalist in concept.
